Nearly 1 in 3fail the RMA exam
That is AMT's own figure, and it barely moves: 71% passed in 2025, 70% in 2024, 71% in 2023. AMT does not present it as a first-attempt rate, and we do not either — it is the whole year's examinations. What AMT does limit is how often you may come back: four attempts at this certification, ever.
Source: AMT’s own published certification statistics (8,223 RMA examinations in 2025, from the three-year table in AMT's Candidate Handbook).
That is exactly why we guarantee it.

Prices and features verified on each company's own site on 6 September 2026; their terms may have changed since, so check before you buy. Two of the three columns are AMT itself, which is both the certifying body and the premium prep vendor on this exam. None of these prices includes AMT's own $150 application and examination fee, which every candidate pays directly to AMT. AAMA's CMA (AAMA) and NHA's CCMA are different credentials awarded by different bodies; products aimed only at those are excluded, as are free resources and vocational training programmes that bundle the exam fee. Capital Prep is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by American Medical Technologists; RMA and Registered Medical Assistant are used here descriptively, to name the exam we prepare you for.

Questions, answered
What do I get for free?
The entire 610-page study guide, free, with no card. Every page readable, highlightable, and you can turn any line into a flashcard. Practice questions, mocks and the AI tutor are part of the paid passes.
How does the SurePass Guarantee work?
Score 85%+ on one full-length mock, sit the real exam, and if you don't pass we refund what you paid. On Lifetime, clear two mocks with your readiness meter at "Getting close" or above and we also pay your full $150 retake fee. You file the claim in your account with your official AMT score report.
How many full-length mocks do I get?
4 scored full-length sittings, each a brand-new 210-question paper weighted to AMT's three Work Areas and timed to the real two hours. Practice questions and timed practice are unlimited and never use one. The bank is 1,680 questions — eight fresh sittings' worth against an allowance of four — so even after all four there are 840 questions you have never seen.
Which pass should I buy?
Match it to your exam date. Sitting within a week, the 7-Day Pass is built for that. A month out, the 30-Day. No date yet, or you want it to keep working after you pass — Lifetime, which matters here because the RMA carries an annual fee after you earn it — AMT's own fee footnote says your application covers only the first one.
Am I eligible to sit the RMA?
AMT decides that, not us, and it publishes more than one route in — so we deliberately do not restate the requirements here, where they would go stale. Read AMT's own eligibility page before you apply. One thing worth knowing once you have applied: AMT keeps an application active for one year.
What does the exam itself cost?
$150, paid to AMT — its own fee table says that figure covers the application, the exam and your first annual fee. Fail, and the retest is a separate $150: AMT prints a "Retesting fee" table on the same page and states that a non-refundable fee is required for each additional attempt. That is why our Lifetime tier covers your full $150 retake fee if you qualify and don't pass.
What happens if I fail — how soon can I sit again, and how many times?
You wait 45 days, and you retake the entire exam, not the part you missed. And there is a limit most candidates do not know about until they hit it: AMT allows four attempts at any one certification, ever. A fifth does not exist. That is AMT's own rule, in its own words, and it is the reason the fourth attempt is worth preparing for as if it were the only one.
What is on the exam?
210 questions in two hours, at a Pearson VUE test center. Three Work Areas, and AMT publishes the split to the item: Clinical Medical Assisting is 115 questions and 55% of the paper, General Medical Assisting 65 questions and 31%, Administrative Medical Assisting 30 questions and 14%. Our bank is weighted to those percentages within a hundredth of a point. AMT also says its exams may contain unscored pretest questions and does not publish how many.
What score do I need to pass?
Not a percentage, and this is the thing to get right. AMT reports a scaled score and its Candidate Handbook says the minimum passing score "is translated into the number 70 (on a scale ranging from 0 to 100)… these are neither percentages of questions, nor numbers of questions answered correctly". So there is no percent-correct target to chase, and anyone telling you to aim for 70 percent is quoting a number AMT explicitly says is not one. Our mocks are linear and fixed at 210 questions, and the score the guarantee is settled on is 85%+ on one full-length mock — our number, stated up front, never AMT's.
What happens when my pass expires?
Your account stays; the paid features stop. Your notes, highlights and flashcard history are all still there if you come back, and Lifetime never expires.
Are the questions like the real exam?
Every item is written to AMT's own examination specifications, weighted Work Area by Work Area, with four options and a rationale on each. We also run a construction audit nobody else in this category runs — a stem-blind read, where a reader who cannot see the question, only the options, is measured against pure guessing — and we publish what it returns rather than only the flattering half. Here that reader scores 30.5% against the 25% a coin-flip would give: inside our acceptance band overall, but one of the three Work Areas came back higher than the band allows, on a sample too small to sharpen. So we record the audit as inconclusive rather than passed, and we set this exam's qualifying score stricter than our own default instead of quietly shipping the weaker number. What we will not do is suggest these questions appear on the real exam — they do not, and no practice score can promise you a passing one.
My exam date moved. Does the plan adjust?
Yes. Change the date and the Game Plan rebuilds around the new one — it works backwards from your date, so a move forward compresses it and a move back spreads it out. Nothing is lost.
Can I use it on my phone, and does it work offline?
Yes to both. Add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app. Your due flashcards and a set of practice questions download automatically, so you can revise with no signal. Narrated audio and full-length mocks still need a connection.
Do you offer refunds if I change my mind?
Yes, separately from the pass guarantee: 24 hours on the 7-Day Pass, 48 hours on the 30-Day Pass, or 72 hours on Lifetime, measured from your purchase (or from your upgrade, if you upgraded) — no questions asked, as long as you haven't sat your exam yet. EEA and UK buyers also keep their 14-day statutory right. The SurePass Guarantee is the other promise — that one is about your exam result, not about changing your mind.
Why are SurePass guarantees limited each week?
Because we honour them. Every guarantee is a real financial commitment, so we cap how many are live in a given week and the counter you see is a count of genuine commitments — purchases and held checkouts — never a display number. If a week sells out, yours activates the following Monday.
