The National Registry replaced the EMT examination on 7 April 2025, and the five domains are now Scene Size-up and Safety at 15–19% of the exam, Primary Assessment 39–43%, Secondary Assessment 5–9%, Patient Treatment and Transport 20–24%, and Operations 10–14%. Paediatric care is integrated throughout rather than sitting in its own domain. Our bank and guide are built to those weights — Primary Assessment alone is more than twice the next-largest domain, and a bank organised on the retired Airway / Cardiology / Trauma / Medical-OBGYN structure is mis-weighted by construction.

It is a computerised adaptive test: a minimum of 70 items and a maximum of 120, with 2 hours to complete it, and 10 of those items are unscored pilot questions. The test stops as soon as it is 95% confident you are above or below the standard. Your result is reported on a scale from 100 to 1500 with a passing point of 950 — and only candidates who do not pass receive a score, so a pass comes back as a pass with no number attached. Results are generally posted to your National Registry account within two business days.

No, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. The real exam is adaptive, so its length depends on your answers and no practice product can reproduce it. Ours is a fixed, linear 120-question multiple-choice paper — the maximum length, timed to the real 2 hours — which makes it a full-length rehearsal of the CONTENT and a consistent measure of where you are. The National Registry publishes no percent-correct cut at all, so our mocks are scored against our own 80% bar, which is also the bar the guarantee is settled on.

Yes — alongside multiple choice, the National Registry's test plan lists multiple response, options table, build list and drag-and-drop items, all scored all-or-nothing with no partial credit. Our questions are multiple choice. Every job task in the test plan is covered by our bank and our guide, but if you have never met a build-list item you will meet the interaction for the first time on test day, and we would rather you knew that here than found out there.

The cognitive examination is $104, and the National Registry states the fee is charged for each examination attempt — there is no discounted retake. That is why our Lifetime tier covers your full $104 retake fee if you qualify and don't pass. The $30 rescheduling fee and the $150 rescore fee are not retake fees and we do not treat them as ones.

You may reapply and pay the fee as soon as your results are posted, but the retest policy makes you wait 15 days from your last examination date. You get six chances to pass, and after three failures the National Registry requires remedial education — the 20-credit EMT National Competency Component, or a state- or CAPCE-approved refresher — uploaded with your fourth attempt. Some states will not accept online CE hours for that. Fifteen days is short, so the retake reimbursement is a promise you can act on quickly; the third failure is the one that costs real money and weeks, and it is what the guarantee is really speaking to.

No, and nothing on this page should be read as covering it. The National Registry runs the cognitive examination; the BLS psychomotor skills verification is set, run and priced by your state EMS office, and it is a separate requirement with a separate fee. Our study system and our guarantee are for the cognitive exam only.

You need to have completed a state-approved EMT course. Initial courses are valid for two years from the month and year of completion, your Authorization to Test is valid for 90 days (and expires with the course if the course runs out first), and your results stay valid for 24 months. Taking remedial education for a fourth attempt does not extend your course completion date. Check the National Registry's current requirements before you apply.
