You can retest once your current authorization expires, at most once per 90-day eligibility period, and after a third failure inside three years you wait a year. That is why our Lifetime tier covers up to $420 toward your retake fee if you qualify and don't pass.

165 multiple-choice questions in three hours, of which 145 are scored and 20 are unscored pretest items, with no scheduled breaks. Six domains: Symptom Management and Supportive Care is the largest at 25%, then Treatment Modalities at 20%, Oncologic Emergencies at 16%, Oncology Nursing Practice at 15%, Care Continuum at 14%, and Psychosocial Dimensions of Care at 10%.

ONCC reports a scaled score, not a percentage of questions correct, so there is no official percent cut to quote — including from us. The 85% our mocks score against is our own bar, stated as ours.

ONCC publishes this itself, with raw counts, every year. Of 3,071 first-time candidates in 2025, 1,072 did not pass — more than one in three. Counting every candidate rather than only first-timers makes it worse, not better, at 39%. It is also the hardest of ONCC's exams: 61% passed the OCN in 2025 against 78% for AOCNP and 75% for CBCN.

ONS — the Oncology Nursing Society, the specialty society rather than the certification board — sells its OCN review as eight individual courses in two bundles, priced from about $35 to $140 each depending on membership. They are taught content with knowledge checks inside the lessons, they publish no question bank, they carry no guarantee, and access runs 180 days. They are a different job from this one, and a candidate who does both is better prepared.

It is called DoubleTake: $100, bought at application time, and it pre-pays your second attempt. ONCC prices the value itself as "a savings of up to $320". It is nonrefundable if you pass, you have to decide before you have any information about whether you will need it, and it comes with no content, no questions and no guide. Partly, and it is worth being straight about it. If you are going through ONCC's FreeTake program your employer is invoiced only when you pass and you already have one free retake, so the retake-fee half of our Lifetime guarantee is worth nothing to you — the refund half still is. If your employer reimburses you for a fee you paid, the retake cover pays on your receipt as usual.

ONCC requires an active unencumbered RN licence, two years of RN experience within the last four, 2,000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice within the last four, and 10 contact hours of oncology continuing education within the last three. Check ONCC's current requirements before you apply.
