150 multiple-choice questions in three hours, of which 125 are scored and 25 are unscored. Five domains: Patient/Care Management is the largest at 32%, then Nursing Teamwork and Collaboration at 21%, Elements of Interprofessional Care at 17%, and Holistic Patient Care and Professional Concepts at 15% each.

MSNCB reports a scaled result and publishes scored-item counts rather than a percent cut, so there is no official percentage — including from us. The 90% our mocks score against is our own bar, and it is deliberately the strictest bar we set on any exam.

MSNCB publishes this itself, as raw counts, five years back. In 2025, 4,845 candidates tested and 1,599 did not pass — nearly one in three, and the highest failure rate MSNCB has published. Volume rose that year too, so it is not a small-sample effect.

AMSN — the specialty society, not the certification board — sells both. The Online CMSRN Certification Review Course is $149 for members and $199 otherwise: self-paced, 11 modules, practice questions inside each module, 14.75 NCPD. The CMSRN Practice Exam is $99 or $139: 150 blueprint-aligned questions as one timed three-hour form with unlimited attempts, and 180 days of access. Neither carries a guarantee — AMSN says plainly that completing the practice exam does not guarantee a passing score. They are worth having, and they are a different job from this.

It is called CertAssure and MSNCB describes it as "much like an insurance policy": $100 for a member or $200 otherwise, bought at application time, and it pre-pays your second attempt. It is nonrefundable if you pass, and it comes with no content, no questions and no guide. Our Lifetime tier includes that same retake cover, plus a full refund, plus the whole study system — which is the comparison worth making, because the certifying body has put its own price on that one component.

MSNCB requires a current unencumbered RN licence and 2,000 hours of medical-surgical nursing practice within the last three years. Check MSNCB's current requirements before you apply.

Every item is written to MSNCB's Appendix A, weighted domain by domain, with four options and a rationale on each. Every key was recomputed from its own stem before the explanation was read. What we will not do is claim a number we have not measured — where we have run a construction audit we publish it, and on this bank the audit did not come back clean, so no page here claims that it did.
