IC&RC does not publish a percentage, and says so outright: "Passing scores for IC&RC exams are not based on a percentage of questions answered correctly." Your result is a scaled score from 200 to 800, and 500 is the minimum passing score on every IC&RC exam — the cut is set by a Modified Angoff study rather than by counting questions. No, and it is worth being clear about. The exam is IC&RC's Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) Examination. CADC is what many boards call the credential you get for passing it — Illinois, California, Pennsylvania and Kentucky among them — while New York issues a CASAC and Florida a CAC. Different credential names, the same paper. If your board's requirements name the IC&RC ADC exam, this is the exam we prepare you for.

That is your Member Board's decision, not IC&RC's. IC&RC writes and owns the exam; each of its 60-plus Member Boards sets its own education, supervised-experience and ethics requirements, takes your application and issues the credential. Find your board first — the requirements differ enough between states that no general answer would be true for you.

It depends on your board, and anyone quoting you one number is guessing. IC&RC does not sell the exam — its own words are that candidates "must do so through an IC&RC Member Board" — and each board sets its own fee. Read on their own pages in September 2026: $180 in Georgia, $185 in Florida, $225 in Illinois. A retake is that fee again; no board we found offers a discounted one. That is why our Lifetime tier covers up to $225 toward your retake fee if you qualify and don't pass.

You wait ninety days. IC&RC's Candidate Guide states the minimum ninety-day wait and that it "cannot be waived under any circumstances", and some boards add more on top — Pennsylvania allows three retakes, then requires a study plan and a full year after a fourth failure. So the cost of failing this exam is a quarter of a year of practice as much as it is a fee, which is the reason to be sure before you sit rather than to sit and find out.

150 questions in three hours, at an IQT test center or remotely proctored. 125 of the 150 are scored and 25 are unmarked pre-test items being trialed for future papers — you cannot tell which is which, so you answer all 150. You get a preliminary result at the screen, and the official report reaches you through your board in two to three weeks.

Every item is written to IC&RC's own published domain weights — Scientific Principles 25%, Screening and Assessment 20%, Treatment, Counseling and Referral 30%, Professional, Ethical and Legal 25% — with a rationale on every option, not just the right one. One honest difference: IC&RC's guide says its items carry three or four choices, and ours are four throughout, which makes our papers slightly harder than the real one on the three-option items. And we never claim our questions appear on the exam; IC&RC keeps several forms in circulation and discloses none of them.
