Three exams, not one. Radiation Health and Safety is 75 questions in 60 minutes, Infection Control is 75 in 60, and General Chairside Assisting is 95 in 75 — 245 questions and 195 minutes in total, which is the figure DANB publishes for the CDA. You apply once, you get a 60-day testing window, and you sit them as three separate appointments inside it. You have five years to pass all three, and a component you have already passed stays passed. Our full-length mock puts the whole thing on one clock, which is harder than the real day and is meant to be.

For the General Chairside exam, DANB requires one of three pathways: graduation from a CODA-accredited dental assisting or hygiene program; a high school diploma plus a minimum of 3,500 hours of approved work experience; or a former CDA status or dental-degree route. All three also require current hands-on CPR, BLS or ACLS from a DANB-accepted provider. There are no eligibility requirements for the Radiation Health and Safety or Infection Control exams. We prepare you for the exams — we cannot supply work hours, a program place or a CPR card, so check the pathway before you apply.

DANB reports a scaled score, not a percentage: you need 400 on a 100–900 scale on each of the three exams, and DANB states plainly it is "neither a number correct nor a percent correct score". The exams are computer adaptive too, so the questions adjust to you as you go — which is why DANB also says the average candidate answers around 50% of them correctly. Our mocks are linear, and our own bar on them is 80%. That is our number, not DANB's, and it is deliberately set well above what the real exams ask.

DANB charges $450 for the CDA — all three exams under one application, including its $75 nonrefundable application fee. Taken singly each exam is $270, and any two are $375. Active military pay a little less. There is no discounted retake anywhere in DANB's schedule: their Candidate Handbook says candidates "must reapply and pay the full exam fee" to re-sit a failed exam, with no limit on attempts. So what a retake costs you depends entirely on how many of the three you have to sit again — usually just one, because a component you passed stays passed for five years. That is why Lifetime covers up to $450 toward your retake fee rather than one flat figure: we pay what your receipt actually says.

Four scored full-length sittings, each a brand-new 245-question paper weighted to all eleven domains across the three exams and timed to the real 195 minutes. Practice questions and timed practice are unlimited and never use one. They draw on a curated exam-grade set of 1,225 items, five papers' worth against a 245-question form, out of the 1,960 in the bank. DANB's own affiliate sells three practice tests of 200 questions, one per exam.

Every item is written to DANB's own exam outlines — all three of them — weighted domain by domain, with four options and a rationale on each. What we will not do is claim a number we have not measured: where we have run a construction audit we publish it, and this bank's came back honest rather than spotless, so no page here says it was clean.

Work backwards from your testing window. Under a week from your first appointment, the 7-Day gives you everything for the final push. Sitting inside the month, the 30-Day is the honest fit. But the window is 60 days and you are scheduling three separate appointments in it, so most people are on the 30-Day at best — and Lifetime costs less than two of them, never expires, and matters more here than on most exams because the CDA renews every year once you have it.
