CCI's — the Certified Cardiographic Technician, awarded by Cardiovascular Credentialing International and sat at a Pearson VUE test center. In CCI's own words it is "for professionals working in the areas of ECG, Holter monitoring, and stress testing". The acronym is crowded: there is also a Certified Cost Technician (AACE), a Certified Compliance Technician (AAHAM) and a Carpet Cleaning Technician (IICRC), and none of those is this. If your application, your employer or your authorization letter says Cardiovascular Credentialing International, you are in the right place. Match it to the date on your authorization to test, and for most people on this exam that is Lifetime — for CCI's reasons rather than ours. Fail the CCT and you cannot simply rebook: CCI requires a 45-day waiting period before you can take the exam a second time, a retake is a brand-new application at the full $175, and CCI takes 15 to 20 business days to process one. A second attempt can land closer to two months after the first than two weeks, and a 30-day pass cannot span that. Lifetime is also the only tier whose guarantee pays your full $175 retake fee, which is the line that matters most when more than 1 in 3 first-time test takers do not pass. CCI publishes a scaled passing score of 650 on a 0–900 scale, and it publishes the warning that goes with it in the same paragraph: "CCI total scaled scores do not equal the number or percentage of questions answered correctly." So there is no percent-correct pass mark on this exam, and nobody — us included — can honestly turn 650 into one. You will see a percentage quoted on free CCT sites; it is not CCI's, and CCI's own sentence above is the reason we will not repeat it. What you actually get at the test center is an unofficial report with your total score, your pass or fail, and a breakdown of the percentage you answered correctly in each content area. The 80% our mocks are marked against is OURS, not CCI's, and it is also the score that qualifies you for the guarantee.

CCI charges $175 for the CCT, and the widely misread part is that the $100 non-refundable fee is inside that figure rather than on top of it — in CCI's words, "All exam fees include a $100 non-refundable fee for the staff resources required to review and process applications." Every eligibility route pays the same $175: currently enrolled or a recent graduate, currently or previously employed in the field, or holding a qualifying degree. There is no discounted retake. A second attempt is a brand-new application at the full price, CCI imposes a mandatory 45-day waiting period before you can take the exam a second time, and processing a new application takes 15 to 20 business days on top. That is the real price of failing: $175 again, and nearer two months than two weeks. And ask your department: hospitals sometimes sponsor the fee, though they rarely buy the prep.

Mostly, and here is the part that is not. Every item is written to CCI's six duty areas and weighted the way CCI weights them, with four options, one key and a reason given for every option — and each key was recomputed from the question itself before the explanation was read. What we do differently: CCI's form mixes traditional four-option multiple choice with three item types it calls innovative — multiple response ("select two correct responses"), hot spot (click one specific area of an image) and drag and place (drop labels into the right boxes on an image) — and CCI does not publish what share of a form those are. One more honest note on the shape: CCI delivers 130 questions and scores 110 of them, and says the 20 unscored items are not identified and are scattered through the exam, so our mocks run the full 130 — you cannot rehearse a paper nobody is ever shown.

CCI sells exactly one, and it is worth knowing precisely what it is before you buy it. The CCI self-assessment exam is $55, and in CCI's own words it "can be taken only once per purchase"; you have one year from purchase to begin it and 72 hours to finish once you start; "once you finish the self-assessment exam, you cannot access it again"; and the report "will NOT provide the questions and answers" from it or go over the items you missed. CCI is candid about the purpose too: "these are not intended to be used as a study guide." It comes from the body that writes the exam, which is something we cannot claim, and it is one sitting that never shows you an answer. Two more things CCI says that are worth repeating: its own Review Programs page lists nothing at all, and "CCI does not endorse or recommend any third-party review course or material" — ours included.
