The Capital Prep Method

What to study, when to study it & the exact moment you're ready.

Cut out the months of studying you don't need. BOC prep that adapts every day — no guessing what to do next.

SurePass readiness

A readiness score built from your own answers, not a bar that fills because you clicked. Recent work counts heaviest, so the twenty minutes you find between a practice and a clinical rotation actually move it.

Questions, answered

What's inside the study portal?

The full Fast Track Study System — every practice question, every flashcard deck, full-length mock exams, narrated audio, Miles the AI tutor, and the entire study guide, every chapter readable and highlightable. The cheat sheet — the highest-yield facts as a PDF — is in the study portal on every pass, with instant access to download it. Every pass opens all of it, backed by the SurePass Guarantee.

How does the SurePass Guarantee work?

Score 85%+ on one full-length mock, sit the real exam, and if you don't pass we refund what you paid. On Lifetime, clear two mocks with your readiness meter at "Getting close" or above and we also pay your full $375 retake fee — one funded retake. You file in your study portal with your official BOC result. This is our guarantee, not BOC's, and BOC does not endorse it or any study material. What it does not cover, stated plainly: the $75 or $100 application fee (or a new one if your one-year retake eligibility runs out), rescheduling fees, any fee BOC keeps after a late cancellation or a no-show, state licensure fees, and BOC's annual certification renewal fee.

How many full-length mocks do I get?

Four scored full-length sittings, each a brand-new 175-question paper built to the five PA8 domains in the shares BOC prints — 20.0% Risk Reduction, Wellness and Health Literacy, 25.6% Assessment, Evaluation and Diagnosis, 20.8% Critical Incident Management, 25.6% Therapeutic Intervention, 8.0% Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility — and timed to the real four hours. Practice questions and timed practice are unlimited and never use one. Worth knowing what you are comparing that to. BOC's own self-assessment exams are 80 questions each, sold as a $35 voucher, and once you submit one you cannot go back in. They are worth taking for the item formats (see below), but none of them is a full 175-question sitting.

Which pass should I buy?

Most people sitting the BOC should buy Lifetime, and the reason is the calendar as much as the money. It is the only tier that pays your retake fee, and it is the only one that spans a fail-and-retake cycle: BOC tests in two-week windows, posts results two to four weeks after a window closes, and lets a retake candidate register for the next available window only — so a second attempt is usually a couple of months away, well past any 30-day pass. The 30-Day is the right pass if your window is close and you only need the month. The 7-Day is built for one job: a final-week check when your window is already booked.

What score do I need to pass?

BOC publishes a scaled passing score of 500 on a 200–800 scale, set by the Angoff Modified Technique — a panel of certified athletic trainers judges every item. It is a scaled score, not a percentage, and nobody — us included — can honestly turn 500 into a percent-correct figure; the raw score behind it is the number of scored items you answer correctly, and BOC does not publish how many of the 175 are scored. If you do not pass, BOC sends a descriptive report of how you did in each domain. The 85% our mocks are marked against is OURS, not BOC's: it is also the score that qualifies you for the guarantee, and we would rather find out you are short on our paper than on theirs.

What does the exam cost, and what does a retake cost?

BOC charges $375 to sit in the United States or Canada, plus a non-refundable application fee of $75 if you are a NATA member or $100 if you are not. Candidates sitting under an international arrangement in Ireland, the UK or Spain pay $490. A retake is the $375 exam fee again; BOC waives the application fee as long as you retake within one year of your result posting, and allows unlimited retakes inside that year. After the year, it is a brand-new application at the current fees. What the fee table does not show is the time: BOC tests only in two-week windows, results post two to four weeks after a window closes, and a retake candidate may register for the next available window only. Cancel before you schedule and BOC refunds half the fee; cancel after and it refunds a quarter; miss the appointment and it refunds nothing. Our Lifetime guarantee pays your full $375 retake fee — for a candidate under an international arrangement, that is $375 of the $490. Veterans may be eligible to have the exam fee reimbursed through the GI Bill — BOC says so in its own fee table.

Are the questions like the real exam?

In content, weighting, length and clock, yes; in item format, only partly, and here is the honest version. Every question is written to BOC's PA8 domains and tasks, weighted the way BOC weights them, with four options, one key and a reason given for every option — including why each wrong one is wrong. Many are clinical scenarios, and some come in five-question sets around one case, the way BOC's focused testlets do. The real exam also uses multi-select, drag-and-drop and hot spot items, with partial credit on the first two. Our bank carries 122 select-all items in BOC's multi-select format — practice items, never drawn into a mock — and does not simulate drag-and-drop or hot spot. For format practice on those, BOC publishes free sample items covering every type, and its $35 self-assessment exams use them too — take them alongside us. Our mocks also score all 175 items, where BOC scores only some of them, which makes ours the slightly harsher sitting.

What about BOC's own study materials?

Use them. BOC publishes the Practice Analysis, 8th Edition content outline, the Exam References list (the texts its items are referenced to), the Candidate Handbook and a set of free sample items, all at no cost. It sells self-assessment exams at $35 a voucher: 80 questions each, in a Study mode that shows the answer and reference or a Test mode that scores you by domain, with 365 days to start one and seven days to finish it, and no refunds. BOC is clear that a self-assessment score "does not predict your performance on the certification exam", and that it does not endorse any vendor's materials, ours included. They come from the body that writes the exam, which is something we cannot claim, and they are worth using alongside us rather than instead of us.

Is the exam changing?

Not yet, but it is scheduled to. The current exam is built on BOC's Practice Analysis, 8th Edition, in force since the March 2023 window, and our bank and guide are built to it. BOC has announced the 9th Edition: the new content outline is due to be published in December 2026, and BOC plans to administer the first PA9 forms in April 2028. Every window before then is a PA8 exam.

What happens when my pass expires?

Your account stays and your work stays with it — notes, highlights and flashcard history are all there if you come back. The paid features stop. You can upgrade at any time and pick up exactly where you left off, and an upgrade always credits what you already paid.

My exam date moved. Does the plan adjust?

Yes. Change the date and the Game Plan rebuilds around the new one — it works backwards from your date, so a move forward compresses it and a move back spreads it out. Nothing is lost. If you are moving to a different window rather than a different day, BOC charges a rescheduling fee, so it is worth deciding early.

Can I use it on my phone, and does it work offline?

Yes to both. Add it to your home screen and it behaves like an app. Your due flashcards and a set of practice questions download automatically, and the whole study guide downloads too, narrated audio included — so a bus to an away game is still study time. Scored mocks and the tutor wait for a connection.

Do you offer refunds if I change my mind?

Yes, separately from the pass guarantee: 24 hours on the 7-Day Pass, 48 hours on the 30-Day Pass, or 72 hours on Lifetime, measured from your purchase (or from your upgrade, if you upgraded) — no questions asked, as long as you haven't sat your exam yet. EEA and UK buyers also keep their 14-day statutory right. The SurePass Guarantee is the other promise — that one is about your exam result, not about changing your mind.

Why are SurePass guarantees limited?

Because we honor them. Every guarantee is a real financial commitment, so a limited number opens for this exam each day. The allocation resets at midnight in your own time zone, and the counter shows how many of today's are still open.
