For administrations on or after 3 August 2026 the Clinical exam is 122 questions in 240 minutes — 110 scored and 12 pretest items that do not count — and you sit it in two sealed halves of 61, so you cannot go back to the first half once you close it. The 170-question form most people have heard about is retired. Lifetime, for most people sitting this exam, and the reason is the retake rule rather than the price. If you don't pass, ASWB makes you wait 90 days before you can test again and charges the full fee a second time — so a pass that expires in 30 days expires in the middle of a three-month wait, and you would be buying prep twice. Lifetime is also the only tier that pays your full $260 retake fee if you qualify and still don't pass. The 30-Day Pass is the right call if your date is already booked inside the month and you have done the reading; the 7-Day is built for the final week, when you want a last full sweep of the bank and one timed sitting on the real clock. Whichever you pick, an upgrade always credits what you already paid.

There isn't a single one, and ASWB says so itself: “Because each exam has multiple forms, there is no single correct number of questions that must be answered correctly to pass.” The passing score generally ranges from 66 to 78 correct answers out of the 110 scored questions, and it moves with the form you happen to sit — your report gives you a pass or fail verdict, not a percentage to beat. So if you are handed a single number to hit for this exam, check whose number it is. The 80% our mocks are marked against is ours, set well above the top of ASWB's range on purpose, and it is also the score that qualifies you for the guarantee.

ASWB charges US$260 to register for the Clinical exam and states plainly that all fees are nonrefundable. If you don't pass, there is no discounted second attempt — you register again and pay the $260 again — and you must wait 90 days before your next appointment. A waiver of that wait exists but it is narrow: your score has to be within 10 correct answers of passing AND your board has to allow waivers, and California and North Dakota do not permit them at all. That is what our Lifetime guarantee is aimed at: qualify, sit it, don't pass, and we refund your purchase and pay your full $260 retake fee. One thing to be clear about — that covers the ASWB registration fee and nothing else. Your board's own application, registration and licence fees are separate and can be substantial; New York alone charges $294 for licensure and first registration.

Most read the way the real ones do: a short clinical vignette, four defensible-sounding actions, one that is correct at that point in the process. What we do differently: ASWB's own sample questions include some with three options as well as four, and every question here has four. A four-option item is the harder of the two to guess, so our mocks read a shade tougher than the real paper — which is the honest reason our bar sits where it does.
